Portugal’s penalty shootout qualification was a surprise, as they defeated Slovenia 3-0 in the relevant process and secured a place in the quarter-finals, where they will face France. Diogo Costa is a great star who saved all three penalties from the Slovenians!
In the first half, Portugal faced difficulties against Slovenia, who defended very well, closing the spaces and not allowing the home team to threaten. In the 13th minute, Bruno Fernandes hit the crossbar, while in the 34th minute, Ronaldo took a free kick. Outside the area, in the 45’+2′ minute, Palinia hit the crossbar.
In the 55th minute, Oblak said “no” to Ronaldo again, this time as he did in the 89th minute in a single four-on-one against CR7!
The game went into extra time and in the 105th minute the Iberians won a penalty. Oblak performed a legendary operation and prevented Ronaldo from taking the shot! In fact, the Slovenians could have… stolen the qualification, but in the 115th minute Cesko was unable to beat Diogo Costa.
Qualification was decided on penalties, where Costa saved three consecutive Slovenian penalties and Portugal secured qualification for the quarter-finals with a 3-0 victory.
