She issued her second apology as a written statement less than 24 hours after addressing him on video the night of the show. As previously reported, Angela stunned in a peacock-inspired gown by Casze Atelier that accentuated her curves! Her hair was pulled back into a partial bun. The makeup look was on point!
But what stood out in Angela Simmons’ red carpet reactions was her bejeweled, pistol-shaped purse. She also posed on the carpet and backstage at the BET Awards with the bejeweled accessory. “awkward” conversations.
“When I chose the bag, I believed it was cute and unique, and I made a poor decision to use it as an accessory to amplify my beauty. I deeply regret that this item, which symbolizes a gun, was inappropriate and insensitive, especially given my personal and community experiences with gun violence,” Angela Simmons said in her apology statement.
In the following paragraph, Angela spoke of exemplifying “peace, unification, and the resolution of gun violence in America” throughout her life. She acknowledged criticism that her personal affiliation with gun violence had been pointed out.
“I personally lost my partner, the father of my child, to gun violence, and I have witnessed its devastating impact on my community in southeast Queens,” Angela added, emphasizing her partnership with activist Erica Ford and her own organization’s efforts to curb gun violence.
“I ask for your understanding and forgiveness, and I hope you can accept my sincere apology. While this incident was a misstep, I will not allow it to define my moral compass or my commitment to promoting peace and ending gun violence,” he concluded.

As mentioned, Angela had already kind of explained herself on the night of the BET Awards. She spoke to a media outlet on her Instagram Story, admitting that she is “not like that, never has been like that” and is not violent.
“…I’ve obviously been through a lot in my personal life when it comes to gun violence, and it’s very personal to me, but I just liked the bag. And I thought it was cool, and I thought it was a fashion moment. That was it,” Simmons shared. “I had no intention of upsetting anyone.”
