The head of Labor and Social Security at SYRIZA-PS, Giorgos Gavrilos, speaks of a “jungle” in the job market, in his statement on start of implementation of the six-day work.
“The full implementation of the 6-day working day in Greece is now a reality, starting today, for a multitude of sectors such as DEKO, industries, shops and others. With ND Law 5.053/2023, the five-day working day and the eight-hour working day, as we knew it and as it was shaped over years of struggle, are left aside in favor of profit and the harsh neoliberal model where the worker is forced to be flexible and constantly available”, highlights Gavrilos.
“The specific government that abandoned Collective Labor Agreements, the protection of health and safety at work, degraded the SEPE and created a framework where flexible forms of employment and the violation of labor rights prevail, has as its main objective to impose the regime of cheap labor in Greece” adds the head of the SYRIZA sector.
Essentially, as he states, “Mr Mitsotakis is telling us that only those who can withstand the collapse in wages, more work – according to EU figures -, the high cost of living and the cuts in rights, are the ones who will survive in a labour market that will only resemble a jungle more.”
