Jonathan Owens‘ daily work will not prevent you from watching Simone Biles on her return to the Olympics…the gymnastics star revealed Sunday that the Bears are giving her husband time off to see her in France.
Owens was scheduled to report to Chicago’s training camp on July 19…and then play for the team’s Hall of Fame game against the Texans on August 1. But with Biles officially qualifying for the Paris Games at the U.S. Olympic Trials over the weekend, the gymnast said USA TODAY those plans will likely change.
“The Bears are actually giving him a few days off from training camp, so he’ll be there, yes,” Biles said. “Just for a short period of time.”
Biles and the rest of the U.S. women’s gymnastics team are scheduled to take the court in Paris on July 28… and finish about a week later — meaning that if Chicago does waive some excused absences for Owens, he will have to miss a good part of the pre-season work.
It’s obviously a nice gesture from the NFL franchise… especially considering Owens — who signed a two-year, $4.75 million contract with the Bears this offseason — wasn’t able to see Biles in person during her last trip to the 2021 Olympics in Tokyo due to COVID regulations.
Biles and Owens started dating in 2020… and in 2023, they tied the knot.

On Sunday, she reiterated how cool it is when they get the chance to see each other compete… explaining, “Anytime we get to support each other, we’re super excited because our schedules don’t overlap that much.”
