Michael J. Fox you can still rock the guitar… taking the stage next door Chris Martin and Coldplay – and playing a mashup of “Back to the Future” that fans know so well.
The actor took to the stage at England’s Glastonbury Music Festival on Saturday night during the band’s headlining set… and you need to watch the video, because it’s a moving tribute to the film and TV legend.
The video begins with Chris and the crew performing their hit “Fix You” – Michael is already on stage, sitting in a wheelchair and holding a guitar on his lap.
After a few minutes, CM walks over to MJF and sings part of the song on his knees so that they are both at eye level… you can see Michael’s hands moving as he strums the instrument.
It’s during an interlude in the band’s hit song that Martin really highlights Fox… singing the lyrics to Chuck Berry“Johnny B. Goode” — the song that sci-fi fans know Fox’s Marty McFly played during the climax of “BTTF.”
Michael really comes to life in this part… rocking in his chair and even kicking it, like he did in the 1985 film.
The most incredible thing… Martin credits “Back to the Future” for encouraging Coldplay to form their band — at which point the crowd erupts into raucous applause.
As you know… Fox was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in the early ’90s — and he’s mostly stepped away from acting and activism in recent years as the disease has progressed. He gave fans an inside look at his life in his 2023 Emmy-winning documentary ‘Still.’
That said, he’s still made time to play with Coldplay over the years… and clearly still has some musical chops in his repertoire.
Certainly a musical moment that took the crowd back in time, Doc.
