Jimmy Rollins says he wouldn’t mind if an MLB player never wore number 24 again… saying TMZ Sports Activities he would go there to see Rob Manfred retire Willie Mays‘a well-known quantity throughout the league.
The potential for dignity has been raised by baseball followers across the country in recent days…after Mays unfortunately he died at the age of 93 outdated June 18.
Seamheads argued that because of his influence in the league, Mays’ old number should receive the same treatment as just Jackie RobinsonNumber 42 has already been taken by MLB.
After we bought Rollins at LAX this week, he declared he would be all for it… telling us, “It could be a great honor.”
J Roll went on to say that he thinks Mays is “probably the greatest baseball player ever to play the game” — and someone who deserves such a huge honor.
Mays, of course, has almost as good an argument as anyone for dignity … having played in more than 3,000 games, hit 660 home runs, and posted a .301 batting average. He also won two MVPs and was named an All-Star an impressive 24 times.
It is unclear, however, whether Manfred is thinking about this at the moment.
