On Sunday, June 30, 2024, the Interactive Science and Technology Exhibition “Evgenios Eugenidis” in Kastanies of the Municipality of Orestiada, in Evros, by the President of the Republic Katerina Sakellaropoulou. The Interactive Science and Technology Exhibition was created by the Eugenides Foundation and the French International Center for Science and Technology City of Science and Industryone of the largest and most pioneering institutions in the field of scientific museology.
The 57 pieces of the Eugenides Foundation’s interactive exhibition, which attracted around 300,000 visitors to the Foundation, are now being relocated to the renovated Kastanie Primary School, with the aim of transforming it into a Model Technology Centre for the Municipality of Orestiada. The exhibitions mainly focus on the positive sciences, with an emphasis on physics, biology and technology, where young and old can come into contact with the world of Science and Technology in an experiential and playful way.
The President of the Eugenides Foundation stated that the relationship between the Eugenides Foundation and the Evros region has been strong over time. “For many years, the Eugenides Foundation has prioritized the Municipality of Evros, with important actions mainly through donations to educational institutions. The transfer of the Interactive Exhibition is another link in this chain of support and offering in the region where the Founder of the Evgenios Eugenidis Foundation comes from.”
The return of debt to the homeland of Evgenios Evgenidis began several decades ago, with organizational and financial support actions in both primary and secondary education, with emphasis in recent years on professional education applied in the last two classes of the Lyceum. The crown of the Eugenides Foundation’s continued giving is the recent donation of the Interactive Science and Technology Exhibition named after its founder “Evgenios Eugenides”.
The Eugenides Foundation in Thrace
Over the last twenty years, the Eugenidos Foundation has developed and continues to develop particularly close contact with Thrace and especially with the island of Evros. The reason for this is the origin of Eugenios Eugenides of the Didymoteichos, but much more than that is the realization that Thrace should be established as a region of Greece that contributes in areas in which it has a comparative advantage in Greek society and economy. The vision of the Eugenides Foundation is its contribution to the creation of qualified human resources in applied technical professions and navigation, which contribute to the development of the Greek economy.
The Eugenides Foundation’s offer in Thrace began to be implemented within society and educational institutions, in Orestiada, Didymoteicho and Alexandroupolis. In 2022, the president of the Eugenides Foundation, Leonidas Dimitriadis-Eugenidis, was declared an honorary citizen of Orestiada, for the Foundation’s activities in the region. The Foundation’s total offer in these areas exceeds 4 million euros. Some of the initiatives are as follows:
•In the Alexandroupolis region, the Eugenidos Foundation supported the creation of a Naval Sector in the 4th EPAL of Alexandroupolis and donated the equipment necessary for the education of students, at the same time as it participated in actions to attract young people to the sea and send them. To the 1st Laboratory Center of Alexandrópolis, he donated a state-of-the-art simulator for the area of Maritime Professions, Masters and Engineers of the Merchant Marine, as well as technological and mechanical equipment for the other laboratories. It also donated 2 school buses to EEEEK in Alexandroupoli, for the needs of children with disabilities, which have an electric ramp for transporting wheelchairs.
•In the Orestiada neighborhood, it completely renovated the building facilities of the 6th Elementary School of Orestiada “Eugenideio”, equipped the computer room, donated teaching materials and robotics kits, while for 10 years it covered the expenses of the 6th grade students of the school for their annual educational trip to Athens.
•A particularly special donation to the Municipality of Orestiada is the delivery, installation and operation of 57 Science and Technology exhibits in the renovated Kastaneon Primary School, which today constitute the Interactive Science and Technology Exhibition “Evgenios Eugenidis”.
•In the district of Didymoteicho, made several donations to pay for laboratory equipment for the mechanical and agricultural sector of the 1st EPA.L. Didymoteichos “Evgenios Evgenidis”, while also offering computers and robotics kits for the best education of students. Furthermore, during the COVID-19 period, it offered the school all the necessary equipment to protect students and teachers.
Finally, the Eugenides Foundation has awarded a significant number of scholarships for doctoral studies at the Polytechnic School of the Democritus of Thrace University, while simultaneously supporting numerous clubs and museums in the region. The presence of the Eugenides Foundation is growing, with the aim of improving the skills of young people in Evros, who in turn will contribute to the sustainable development of Evros, respecting the history and past of the place and charting a more innovative future. , culturally and environmentally sensitive.
