For the uninitiated… “honest copies” are handwritten lyrics written by the artist after the unique lyric sheet is completed. Dan wrote this copy a few years ago for a friend, and it is scribbled on eight sheets of personalized parchment.
While there may be some surprises in the stickers here, consider this… Don’s original lyrics for ‘AP’ were sold at auction in 2015 for a whopping $1.2 million.
There is a growing collector market for honest copies, with some now selling for between $40,000 and $125,000…along with some Bob Dylan songs.
If you think about it, any artist can sit down these days, write lyrics to any old hit song and immediately generate additional income!
