In rocky point at the northeast end of the entrance to the port of Folegandroswhere the navigation lighthouse is, the passenger ferry ran aground in the early hours of the morning SAONISSOSresulting in five people on board – three crew members and two passengers – injured and taken for examination.
The wounded
According to the port authority, three of the injured, the ship’s engineer C, a sailor and a passenger were taken to air transport to the Thriasio General Hospital of Áticawhile the other two, an engineering cadet and another passenger, were also transported by helicopter to Santorini and remain for preventive examinations at the Regional Multidynamic Clinic (PPI) in Folegandros.
The ship’s other passengers were temporarily accommodated in accommodation and will be taken to their destination by the company that owns the ship.
In the maritime area where the incident occurred, northerly winds of 7 to 8 Beaufort prevailed.
According to Master’s statement, there are controlled entry of water into the front of the ship, although so far no marine pollution has been observed.
The Folegandros Port Authority has banned the E/GO/G from sailing until the damage is repaired and a class maintenance certificate is presented by the classifier monitoring the ship.
