If we accept that every time someone mentions the name Porsche, by association the first image that comes to mind is that of the 911 with its ancestors and… descendants, the transition to the new era of electrification has the “Taycan” stamp. .
What we realized, in fact, on our recent trip to the Dalmatian coast, where we had the opportunity to drive the renewed all-electric Porsches (MY2024), is that this particular series with its different variants could even constitute one of its most popular titles. strong chapter “Electrification” (i.e. from ICEs to EVs), far beyond the limits of the specific brand.
Because when you max out at over 1000 horsepower, with a supercar that you can easily drive anywhere, daily, without discounts, asterisks and compromises, then you sign mortgages on the evolution of modern motoring.
The motto of the Porsche people in this case is “higher, faster, further”. And they let us know exactly what they mean, over two days of hundreds of kilometers of testing, in a variety of road environments (Croatia has a European-level road network, unlike Greece…) between Zagreb-Rijeka , on the beautiful island of Lošinj, as well as on the runway of a local flying club.
Hereby: All facelifted Taycans accelerate much faster than the current models. Namely, the Taycan Turbo S (952 hp) is 0.6 seconds faster from 0 to 100 km/h (2.4 seconds), beating even the until recently “spherical” 918 Spyder, while the new Turbo GT version with 1,034 hp accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.3 seconds or 2.2 with the Weissah package. In 4-door vehicles worldwide, it is probably placed at the top.
Depending on the body and engine version, the range (according to WLTP) increases to 678 km (+175 km or +35%). The Taycan not only requires fewer charging stops on long journeys than the previous model, it also recharges more quickly: at 800-volt DC charging stations, for example, it can charge at up to 320 kW, +50 kW compared to before.
The fast charging of the new battery has been significantly expanded, meaning that high demands can be met more quickly, even at low temperatures.
Depending on the driving profile, the time to charge from 10% to 80% can be reduced by half compared to the current model. In the first generation Taycan, the charging time from 10% to 80% SoC (state of charge) at a temperature of 15 degrees Celsius is 37 minutes. Under the same conditions, the updated model needs just 18 minutes, despite the larger battery capacity.
The new Taycans feature Porsche Active Ride adaptive air suspension as standard, which can be ordered as an option for all-wheel drive models. This system offers an outstanding combination of comfort and driving dynamics, as the suspension keeps the Taycan’s body continuously level, even during dynamic braking, steering and acceleration manoeuvres.

In particular, with calm driving, the system almost completely absorbs vibrations from the road surface. In dynamic driving situations, on the other hand, the Porsche Active Ride suspension guarantees ideal contact with the road thanks to the balanced distribution of wheel loads. If the appropriate function is activated, it can compensate for pitch and roll displacements in order to reduce acceleration forces on the occupants. We experience all of this in practice, as we write.
The feeling is indescribable and we say this without the slightest hesitation, after decades of testing many good conventional cars and others. We are entering a new era, and the Taycan is the “entry vehicle” into it (Detail: the ability to raise the body a few centimeters higher when the doors are opened to facilitate the entry/exit of passengers is the icing on the cake. It can also be done on the move, at very low speeds when passing ramps in garages, ferries, etc., by command via a special button on the center console).
Important: The simultaneous improvement in performance and performance is due to several factors: an advanced drive system with a new rear axle motor with 80 kW and more power compared to the past, -in all versions-, a pulse converter modified with software optimized, more powerful batteries, revised thermal management, a next-generation heat pump and a modified energy recovery/all-wheel drive strategy.

Maximum recuperation capacity when decelerating from high speeds has been increased by more than 30 percent, from 290 to up to 400 kW. All versions now come as standard with aerodynamically optimized wheels and tires with reduced rolling resistance. New 21-inch wheels and tires were developed specifically for this purpose.
Furthermore, although the standard equipment is even more extensive than before, the models are up to 15kg lighter. Ambient lighting, ParkAssist with reversing camera, electrically folding exterior mirrors with mirror surround lighting, aluminum door sill protectors, Porsche Intelligent Range Manager (PIRM), new cooling system (heat pump), smartphone slot for wireless charging, driver and passenger side electrical charging ports.
Drive Mode Switch and Power Steering Plus are now standard features.
The best style: With a carefully differentiated front and rear design featuring new headlights and taillights, the experts at Style Porsche have further enhanced the Taycan’s clean appearance. New front fenders and flatter headlights further emphasise its width.

In particular, the new headlights feature high-resolution HD matrix technology, also displaying the brand’s signature graphics at night. The Porsche logo on the rear fascia features a 3D design with a “glassy” appearance. Available for the first time in an illuminated version with greeting animations when entering and exiting the vehicle (wow!). Among other notable elements, the bold Turbonite color makes the Turbo and Turbo S models stand out more subtly from the other versions both outside and inside.

Inside, the car convinces with its complete equipment, excellent build quality and front and rear comfort. The instrument panel, central display and optional passenger display feature an optimized user interface with additional functions. The power button on the steering wheel is now standard.
For Taycan models equipped with the Sport Chrono and Performance Battery Plus package, there is a dedicated push-to-pass button on the power button. Using the new control lever on the left behind the steering wheel, controlling the driver assistance systems is even more intuitive. Apple CarPlay has been more significantly integrated into vehicle displays and functions. The new In-Car Video feature allows video to be streamed to the center screen and passenger display. These… few.

So the success story continues.
Porsche has produced almost 150,000 Taycans to date. The most important individual markets for this model at the moment are the US, the UK, Germany and China. This does not mean that even small markets, such as Croatia or Greece, are negligible. Any other, with 300 units classified, as appropriate, in the relatively small fleets of vehicles circulating in our wider region, is a great achievement, for cars of this type (EV and very high price). Finally, it is worth noting that the Porsche charging service allows access to charging facilities from a wide range of suppliers around the world. Currently, almost 600,000 charging points are connected in Europe in 24 countries.
