Two police officers were seriously injured after being attacked by gathered protesters express their opposition to the organization of the conference of the far-right party Alternative for Germany (AfD) in the city of Essen.
The incident happened near the conference room: “Unknown persons kicked two police officers in the head” and continued to “beat them while they were on the ground.”
“Severely injured,” both men were taken to hospital, police said.
On the sidelines of the anti-AfD demonstrations, violent incidents occurred between protesters and police, resulting in 11 police officers being injured and dozens of people being arrested, while many of the delegates required police escorts to reach the conference venue.
