The French vote today in the first round of the legislative elections in which opinion polls estimate that the far-right National Alarm (RN) can win without securing an absolute majority.
What happens in this case, while political paralysis can be avoided after the elections, the second round of which will be held on July 7?
The short answer is that no one can answer the above question with certainty.
Article 8 of the Constitution provides that the President appoints the Prime Minister, without, however, specifying the criteria for their appointment.
On a practical level, one would expect French President Emmanuel Macron to offer the post of prime minister to the party that holds a leading position in parliament.
This party, according to opinion polls, will be the eurosceptic and anti-immigrant party of National Alarm.
