Today, the fires in Katsimidi of Parnitha and in Serifos do not have an active front, where, however, strong firefighting forces remain for surveillance, as well as water drops directed by helicopters on scattered fires.
Across the country, firefighters and Civil Protection are on high alert, as strong winds will blow today, which will encourage the spread of fires.
According to the Fire Risk Forecast Map issued by the General Secretariat of Civil Protection of the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection (civilprotection.gov.gr), the risk of fire is very high (category 4) in the areas:
- Attica Region (including the island of Kythira)
- Peloponnese region (Corinthia region, Argolis region, Laconia region)
- Crete region
- North Aegean Region (Lesvos Region, Chios Region, Samos Region, Ikaria Region)
- South Aegean Region (Cyclades)
- Central Greece Region (PE Boeotia, PE Fthiotida, PE Evia
Arson interrogations and arrests
In the last 24 hours, a total of 54 agroforestry fires occurred, of which 44 were fought immediately, in their initial phase.
Local investigation offices, as well as units from the Directorate of Arson Crimes (DAEE), are investigating the causes of the fires. As announced by the Fire Department, three minors were arrested for causing a fire in Lagonisi, while 4 other people were fined.
