Speaking to naftemporiki.gr, he described his experience at the Panhellenic Exams Orestes Lignos, who today learned not only that he stood out by achieving the 19,530 pointsbut also what he wrote the absolute 20 in Physics, which for many was one of the most difficult courses this year. After all, as his school reports, this is a student who came first in the rankings of the 41st Balkan Mathematics Olympiad in 2024.
Orestis admitted that he and his fellow students expected the Physics subjects to be more difficult in this year’s exams, but as he characteristically stated “what we saw, we didn’t expect. He surprised us with 10-page issues – two of which were formulaic. Eight densely written pages, eight pages difficult to understand in places.”
Classify them Physics subjects “complicated even in subject B, which is supposed to be an easy subject, basically theoretical”, adding later that the same happened “in subject D which was dominated by the ‘classic blockbuster'”. Elaborating further on the course’s topics, he commented that “what What raised the level of difficulty even further was that topic A – which is usually a theoretical topic with some multiple choice questions and some True-False – even had some traps It is difficulties, which made life difficult for several students.” In fact, he admitted to being among the students who, despite having resolved the questions on time “Until the last minutes I tried to convince myself that the choice I made was the right one.”
Managing subjects during exams
“The subjects were quite demanding, from the point of view that the student was panicking – in fact, I was panicking too,” he says characteristically. However, describing your thoughts at the time of the exam he emphasized: “I realized that if I wanted to even hope to get to topic D to deal with it, I would have to write very quickly and above all what I realized at that moment is that there is no room for error. Even the smallest mistake and the smallest miscalculation can cause the student to lose valuable time, depriving him of the opportunity to advance in the exam.”
Orestes discovered that “Physics was the most difficult subject in our school. We had some high grades in Physics, but overall the trend set by the subject this year was followed, resulting in quite low grades.”
The importance of substantive knowledge
At the same time he stood up the role it plays in the success of the Panhellenic and the assimilation and understanding of the material taught to the students of the 1st and 2nd Lyceum. “I believe that with adequate preparation of the 3rd Lyceum material, which in any case is “monstrous and very long” in the positive direction courses, in order for the student to be able to cope, he should study it earlier in the Lyceum, to gain solid foundations.”
Your goals
First Goal for Orestes (ss and apparently this will happen) is to go to Mathematical from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (EKPA), after graduating from the Hellenic School of Education. However, when he finishes his degree, he is thinking about going abroad. “As soon as I finish Mathematics at EKPA, I will make some applications to return to do a PhD abroad in Mathematics”, she notes.
He describes himself “romantic”but it seems he has chosen the path he wants to follow.”My dream – and I think it’s something that would suit me – is to teach. I’m passionate about explaining something I love to other people who I know love it too. So teaching and researching mathematics is a dream for me. But maybe it’s something very romantic. Times change and In a few years I may have revised my views and adjusted to reality. Or find a way to combine the two so that I can satisfy the needs that I’m obviously going to have, but also do what I really dream about.”
