“Russia will resume production of short- and medium-range missiles capable of using land-based nuclear weapons, due to measures by the United States to deploy such missiles in Europe and Asia,” the Russian president said. Vladimir Putin.
The United States formally withdrew from the 1987 Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty (INF) with Russia’s withdrawal in 2019 after they said that Moscow violates the agreement, an accusation that the Kremlin has denied.
“It is known that the US not only produces these missile systems, but already transports them to Europe”
Russia then imposed a moratorium on its own missile development, which had previously been banned by the INF Treaty.
“It is known that the United States not only produces these missile systems, but also transports them to Europe for exercises in Denmark,” Putin said at a meeting of Russia’s Security Council.
It was recently announced that (the missile systems) are in the Philippines. It is not known whether they removed the rockets from there or not.
Putin said Russia was forced to respond.
“Obviously, we need to start building these attack systems and then, based on the real situation, make decisions about where – if necessary to ensure our security – to install them,” Putin said.
