Frasier is re-entering the building for season 2 on Paramount+!
The streaming service announced in February 2024 that the revival series — which saw Kelsey’s Grammar reprise the title role of Dr. Frasier Crane as he embarks on the next chapter of his life – has been renewed for a second season.
The revival series has already reunited Grammer with some of the stars of the original NBC series. Peri Gilpin reprized her role as Roz in the season one finale, while Bebe Neuwirth also returned as Frasier’s cold ex-girlfriend Lilith.
And much more Frasier stars are set to return for season 2
In June 2024, Paramount+ announced that Dan Butler, who starred as brash sports radio host Bob “Bulldog” Briscoe, Edward Hibbert, who played snobbish food critic Gil Chesterton, and Harriet Sansom Harris, who appeared as the Frasier, Bebe Glazer, will all guest star next season.
There will also be plenty of new faces, with stars like Rachel Bloom, Patricia Heatonand more joining the cast in Season 2.
Production on Season 2 began in May 2024, with the show sharing a video of Grammer arriving on set on a bike, ready to film some new episodes.
“Kelsey has made a triumphant return as one of television’s most iconic and beloved characters,” Jeff Grossman, executive vice president of programming for Paramount+, said in a statement. “The new series introduced Frasier for a whole new generation, reminding fans of Kelsey’s truly timeless portrayal of Dr. Crane. We’re so excited to see what the creative team and great cast have in store for season two.”
“Frasier It’s a love story and I’m so happy we can continue it,” added Grammer, who also serves as executive producer on the series. “I’m thrilled that our partners at CBS Studios and Paramount+ are on board for another season and I can’t wait for fans to see what we have in store!”
In the first season of the revival, Frasier returned to his old self Health stepping foot in Boston, with new challenges to face, new relationships to forge, and an old dream or two to finally realize. New cast members included Jack Cutmore-Scott, who plays Frasier’s adult son Freddy, and Anders Keith as Frasier’s nephew David, the son of Niles Crane (David Hyde Pierce) and Daphne Moon (Jane Leeves).
“He’s not the same guy anymore,” Grammer said on ET’s exclusive behind-the-scenes look ahead of the show’s October 2023 premiere. “He’s a little wiser, maybe even a little funnier, willing to laugh at himself. A little more self-aware and has a new mission in life.”
As news about Season 2 continues to roll out, ET is sharing a look at the cast — from franchise newcomers to OGs from the original series — as well as details on the premiere date, photos and more .
THE CAST
The OGs
Kelsey Grammer
Grammer returned to lead the update, which follows Frasier as he begins a new chapter in his life. The actor was the only star from the original series to return as a regular character in the new series.
While the revival was light on the OG presence in the first season, Grammer noted that the first episode, titled “The Good Father,” is a direct callback to FrasierThe series premiere, which was called “The Good Son”, also featured many nods and references to characters who have passed Frasier, notably the late John Mahoney, who played Frasier’s father, Martin Crane. “There is certainly a tribute to my father in the program, John Mahoney, there,” Grammer told ET. “You’ll see things about John throughout the show. I think people will be really happy to see him honored the way he is in the show.”
Bebe Neuwirth
Neuwirth was the first original cast member, outside of Grammer, officially announced to be reprising his role in the upcoming reboot. She was in the seventh episode of the first season, when Lilith and Frasier had one of their classic confrontations at Freddy’s birthday party. After the love-hate energy between the two threatened her relationship with her son, however, the former couple agreed to amicably separate their family schedules for Freddy’s sake.
Peri Gilpin
Gilpin returned for the season 1 finale of Frasier reboot, reprising her role as Roz, Frasier’s longtime friend and former radio co-host. As Frasier grieved for his father during the holiday season, Freddy showed up with the ultimate Christmas present, surprising him with Roz in an attempt to cheer him up. It was announced in May 2024 that Gilpin will return for season 2 in a recurring guest role.
And Butler
Butler appeared in most seasons of Frasieras Bob “Bulldog” Briscoe, a sports talk show host who worked alongside Frasier at KACL and frequently butted heads with him over Bulldog’s misogynistic antics and jock attitude. He will reprise his role in a cameo in season 2.
Eduardo Hibbert
Hibbert starred as food critic Gil Chesterton in most seasons of Frasieroriginal — giving the titular character a run for his money when it came to snobbish sensibilities. He will also reprise his role as a guest star in season 2.
Harriet Sansom Harris
The stage and screen actress will reprise her role as Frasier’s scheming agent Bebe Glazer in Season 2 of the revival, after appearing in 11 episodes of the original series.
The newcomers
Jack Cutmore-Scott
Cutmore-Scott was introduced to viewers in the first season as Freddy, Frasier’s adult son. (A younger version of the character was played by Luke Tarsitano and Trevor Einhorn in the original series.)
Although Freddy was the reason Frasier returned to Boston, the father-son reunion is complicated. Freddy avoids his father’s academic and elitist personality and, despite being accepted into Harvard, works as a firefighter, a profession that frustrates and worries his father. When the two move in together, it becomes an interesting mirror of the original series, with the conflicting personalities providing plenty of fodder for the show’s antics.
Nicholas Lyndhurst
The stage actor plays Alan, an old college friend of Frasier who is now a professor – although he seems to have more affection for a good, strong drink than any of his students. Lyndhurst has a connection with Grammer, as the two starred in a London production of Man of La Mancha in 2019.
Toks Olagundoye
Olagundoye joined the series as Olivia, Alan’s colleague and head of the university’s psychology department. She idolizes Frasier, having been a devoted fan of his TV talk show, and worked tirelessly to persuade him to join the Harvard faculty, eventually becoming part of his inner circle of friends.
Jess Willow
Salgueiro plays Eve, Freddy’s roommate, in the revival series. While Frasier initially suspects that the two are romantically involved, it is later revealed that Eve is the widow of one of Freddy’s former co-workers, and she and her young son, John, moved in with Freddy after the accident. A struggling bartender and actress, Eve often finds herself caught up in the antics of the Crane men.
Anders Keith
O Frasier The reboot marks Keith’s professional acting debut, playing Frasier’s nephew David, who is the son of Niles Crane and Daphne Moon. Unfortunately, David seems to share both his father’s elegant aloofness and his mother’s penchant for wacky antics, often leaving him the butt of the joke. He is Alan’s student at Harvard, becoming his teaching assistant, much to the chagrin of both.
Greer’s grammar
O Frasier The star’s 32-year-old real-life daughter has joined the project as Roz’s on-screen daughter, Alice. “Now in her late thirties, friendly and outgoing Alice has inherited more than a few of her mother Roz’s free-spirited ways,” reads a character description published by Variety in June 2024. “Having just moved to Providence to study architecture, Alice is eager to reunite with Frasier’s son, Freddy — and complicate any romantic plans he may have.”
Patricia Heaton
O Everyone loves Raymond the actress is joining the second season of Frasier as Holly, a down-to-earth Boston bartender whose confident, unassuming nature puts her at odds with the aspirational academic ideals of Grammer’s character.
Heaton previously co-starred with Grammer in the short-lived comedy Back for you, in which they played exes and rival news anchors. The show only lasted one season on Fox, from 2007-08.
Raquel Flor
Crazy ex-girlfriend Star Rachel Bloom will also join the cast of season two as Phoebe Glazer, the daughter of Bebe Glazer (Harriet Sansom Harris) — who appeared in 11 episodes of the original series.
WHERE DID WE STOP
The first season showed Frasier readjusting to life in Boston and trying to be a supportive father to his now-adult son. He also had to get used to academic life after years in the spotlight on radio and television, dealing with the complicated behind-the-scenes politics that go on at an institution like Harvard.
Meanwhile, Freddy faced his own challenges, from trying to reconnect with a father he couldn’t be more different from, to supporting Eve and her young son, to his own survivor’s guilt. The emotions culminated in the Season 1 finale, where Freddy felt pulled in every direction as he tried to support everyone in his life. Roz’s surprise arrival, however, put everyone at ease as they celebrated and honored Martin and his favorite time of year.
PRODUCTION AND PREMIERE DATE
Frasier The 10-episode first season — as well as the entire original series — is currently streaming on Paramount+. Production on the second season began in May 2024, though there’s no word yet on when the new episodes will premiere.
