The recent poll results– where the New Democracy it fell below the bar it had set – it opened a discussion in the “blue” about the moves that should be made the following day. Yes, at five o’clock Parliamentary Group meeting of the ruling party – where 37 deputies participated – there was criticism (sometimes harsh) of specific government choices and there was no shortage of complaints about a series of issues.
The nominated deputies referred to the party’s ideological identity and most of them emphasized the need for a return to roots and an approach to the traditional base. It is no secret that a section of workers’ deputies want a shift to the right and do not welcome the political transfers that have occurred in recent years.
The MPs’ differences over the same-sex couples bill (which was approved in Parliament a few months ago) were also expressed at the Parliamentary Group meeting. Indeed, the Blues believe that the fact that the issue has dominated the news for so long has alienated conservative voters from the party.
However, the government does not want to enter into the discussion about whether there should be a shift to the right or an intensified opening to the center and speaks of a direction only forward. Regarding the return to the roots, Kyriakos Mitsotakis stressed that “we have never denied our roots. But if the tree does not grow and does not spread, then it probably means that its roots have dried up, whereas, on the contrary, when its branches grow, then probably the roots also justify their role” and pointed out “the roots do not exist for the self. They exist to keep the tree strong and prosperous.”
Deputies asked for open doors
There was no shortage of criticism at the KO meeting of MPs for not finding attentive ears in the offices of ministers, deputy ministers and secretaries-general. The MPs focused on the need to focus on addressing problems that are related to the daily lives of citizens and spoke mainly about the need for targeted interventions in the area of accuracy and also in the taxation of freelancers.
Kyriakos Mitsotakis stressed that the doors will be open and in the next period he will start a round of contacts with MPs (according to information the meetings will be for every twenty people). At the same time, changes will also reach the secretaries-general.
The scenarios for President of the Republic have exploded
It does not go unnoticed that New Democracy MPs have also opened the debate for the President of the Republic. Notis Mitarakis’ position is indicative that “there are many notable members of the center-right, who have a historical background in politics, who could be candidates for President of the Republic. I think this is a discussion that should be held when it matures.” In a similar climate for a center-right candidacy, it seems that there are already about 20 “blue” candidates.
The scenario caught fire and names are already being discussed in the wells (for example the former prime minister Costas Karamanlis, in Panagiotis Pikrammenou or the President of Parliament, Konstantinou Tasoula). It is clear that the government wants to end the relevant debate – they consider it too early – and focus on a series of other current issues. “It is an extremely premature discussion. There is no point in discussing the institution of the President of the Republic for six months, perhaps even longer”, observed government representative Pavlos Marinakis.
The Karamanli – Samara “meeting”
All eyes turn to the joint appearance they are about to make O Kostas Karamanlis It is Antonio Samarasat an interesting time, just after the European elections. The two former prime ministers will speak on Monday at the War Museum as part of an event from the book by the director of the newspaper “Estia”, Manolis Kottakis, “The Secret Archives of Karamanli”.
Without a doubt, this is a “blue” appointment that arouses particular interest, given that it is the first time that the two prime ministers have spoken at the same event. It should be noted here that Kostas Karamanlis and Antonis Samaras participated in the New Democracy conference in Zappeio, but chose not to speak. With this data, the messages that will be broadcast are awaited with particular interest.
