There is a lot of idle talk about the state of Marvel Cinematic Universe today, and what the company is doing right and what it could be doing better. One criticism I haven’t heard much that I think is fair and perhaps more important than it seems: the beginning Wonder films were strongly connected. Each one seemed to lead to the next and characters didn’t disappear for long. Tony Stark appeared in the following film, The incredible Hulk. Hawkeye was in Thor before he was in The Avengers. Captain America flowed directly into The Avengersand so on.
It’s unusual these days for Marvel to go years without popular character appearances. It’s been three years and counting since we last saw Vision at the end of WandaVision; it’s been almost three years since Shang-Chi’s Ten Rings began emitting a beacon for some reason that has yet to be explained. And we haven’t seen the new Black Panther, Shuri, since her debut in the role in Wakanda forever almost two years ago.
It takes so long for these threads and characters to return that the audience can completely forget about the people and subplots. Will we ever see Shuri again? Black Panther star Letícia Wright hinted at In cash – without revealing anything specific – that “there’s a lot to… a lot to come” for the character in the MCU.

Wright also called Shuri one of his “favorite characters” and described her as a “blessing.”
Whether or not there is another direct Black Panther sequel, it is assumed that Shuri would have to be a key member of the next Avengers sequences; Marvel currently has two such films on its schedule, although the first has already been delayed and is reportedly in the process of undergoing a major creative overhaul following the firing of Jonathan Majors, who was set to star as the time-traveling Kang in the films. Black Panther: Wakanda Foreverheaded by Wright, grossed $859 million worldwide.
The next MCU film, Deadpool and Wolverineis scheduled to open in theaters on July 26th. You can watch Wright’s appearance on In cash below.
