The issue of safety and efficiency policing especially in Athens, but also the management of increased traffic flows, especially in periods and areas of greater tourism movement, were the main issues discussed Thursday by the Minister of Tourism, Olga KefalogianniIt is Minister of Citizen ProtectionMichalis Chrysochoidis.
In particular, Ms. Kefalogianni raised the issue of reinforcing the presence of police forces in the center of Athens, as well as in areas and points that arouse great interest among visitors (archaeological sites, traditional sites, entertainment, etc.).
O Minister of Tourism highlighted that Athens has now established itself as a popular year-round tourist destination and faces a number of complex issues relating to public order and safety, which can affect both residents and visitors.
Olga Kefalogianni also mentioned the need to regulate traffic in the city, due to the significant increase in transport works for the needs of visitors, especially on main roads and in the vicinity of popular attractions. She proposed, in collaboration with the local government, to find a solution that would involve, among other things, determining parking spaces for tourist vehicles, buses, etc.
Sir. Chrysocoidis informed the Minister of Tourism about the planning of the Hellenic Police and Traffic to deal with and manage the issues of security and orderly movement of visitors.
The two ministers agreed to maintain close cooperation between the two ministries and to have a continuous and stable communication channel for more direct and effective handling of issues that arise.
