It wasn’t just the content of the responses.
Hard voice, convulsive answers and moments derailed desert in their thinking, they have created for Joe Biden a strange presence – in the noblest terms – that is already triggering developments in the Democratic field that they are openly looking for a replacement.
Detail that “kills”: For those who are wondering why so early the first presidential debate, the answer is that this was a demand of the Democrats. So that the American public would spend an entire summer remembering (and retaining) what is trump at least as the Democratic team hoped.
And the truth is that Trump gave few occasions for such “memories”.
Apases, however, has been overshadowed by Joe Biden’s apparent inability to rise to the demands of such a confrontation.
Result: Trump’s toxic speeches and some lies are already falling into oblivion.
By contrast, Biden’s embarrassing moments — five of which are featured below — will be long forgotten:
Covid as Medicare
The objective was to criticize Trump for his actions in managing US debt. But that’s when the problem started. Biden mistakenly said there are a thousand billionaires in America, before correcting it to “billionaires.”
So he struggled to formulate a long comment for health care. Meaning “Medicare,” he said Covid and ended with the unintelligible “we finally beat Medicare.”
Borders (language does not have)
Biden failed to clearly articulate his immigration policy proposal. He began by saying that there were 40 percent fewer people crossing the border illegally under his watch before ending by saying he would work to ban “comprehensive initiative in terms of what we’re going to do with more border patrols and more asylum officers”.
Abortion (Roe vs Wade)
Biden tried to attack Trump for appointing conservative justices to the Supreme Court and later overturning the court’s landmark Roe v. Wade decision (constitutional protections for abortion).
Biden tried to describe the legal framework for deciding third-trimester pregnancy, but it all turned into a confusing explanation: “The first time is between a woman and a doctor. The second time is between the doctor and an extreme situation. And a third time is between the doctor – I mean, it should be between her and the stateIt is”.
I want clean water…
There were times when Biden failed to capitalize on Trump’s confusing responses (he had them too). So, to a question about climate change, Trump said the following (unrelated): “I want absolutely perfect, clean water and I want absolutely clean air, and we get it. We had H2O. We had the best numbers.” Biden failed to capitalize on Trump’s incomprehensible response and began talking about his own record on climate change.
That’s it, nothing more
The conversation was supposed to be about abortion, but Biden lost his cool when he first referred to a young woman who was allegedly killed by an illegal immigrant and then said:
“Here’s the thing, there are a lot of young women who are raped by their family members, by their husbands, brothers and sisters, but it’s, it’s just ridiculous. And they can’t do anything about it.
