The lyrical battle between Megan Thee Stallion It is Nicki Minaj to be continued. On Friday, the 29-year-old singer released her third studio album, Meganand one of the songs already has fans proclaiming that Megan is firing back at the 41-year-old man after their confrontation earlier this year.
Fans suspect that “Rattle“, the second track of Meganis taking aim at Minaj, who previously claimed to have information about “things” the GRAMMY winner “lied” about.
Megan begins the track by singing, “This bitch ain’t got nothing on me, she thinks she’s from TMZ / I mean, the sooner you accept that I’m that bitch / The better your life will be.”
“Damn, it’s been four years / Worry about your man and your kid / Your life must be boring as fuck if you’re still reminiscing about the things we did,” Megan continues later in the song, seemingly referencing the former friendship she and Minaj had. The two collaborated on the song “Hot Girl Summer” in 2019. “And I ain’t worried about the bitter connection / You bitches got spots in the fan club.”
The song also features a brief interlude during which Megan repeats, “I don’t have tea with me, this bitch thinks she’s from TMZ.”
Listen to “Rattle” below.
Although the song doesn’t directly mention Minaj, it’s reasonable to assume that Megan is talking about the other rapper afterwards. Minaj released the diss track, “Big Foot”, in January, which came after Megan in no uncertain terms.
Minaj posted the song and shared the lyrics on X (formerly Twitter)as she called out Megan for allegedly lying about her, and about getting shot in the foot by Tory Lanez in July 2020. Tory was tried and sentenced in December 2022and it was sentenced to 10 years in prison in August 2023.
Minaj also addresses Megan’s Interview with Gayle Kingin which Megan talks about the shooting and repeatedly mocks Megan’s “dead mother.” Megan’s mother, Holly Thomas, died in 2019as a result of a brain tumor.
Minaj’s track was a response to a song Megan released the week before, “Hiss”, in which Minaj believed Megan was referring to her husband, Kenneth Pettywhen Megan sang, “These bitches don’t get mad at Megan, these bitches mad at Megan’s Law.”
The line refers to the government-mandated registered sex offender database, and Minaj interpreted it as a shot at Petty. who is a registered sex offender, convicted before his marriage to Minaj. “Hiss” does not mention Minaj or her husband by name.
However, in “Big Foot” – which was critically criticized – Minaj mentions Megan’s name repeatedly and directly references that lyric, rapping, ‘This little bag lady / Talking ’bout Megan’s Law / For a free beat, you could hit Megan raw.’
In a spoken word section that served as a warning and/or threat to Megan, Minaj states, “I don’t think you want the next part of this song. I know this is the most attention you’ve ever gotten.”
Minaj stated that she has “4 more” songs ready to release in the future.
It’s no surprise that Megan’s release of her third album during her Hot Girl summer tour brought a lot of attention to “Rattle” and her feud with Minaj.
Megan is the rapper’s first album release since testifying against Lanez during his trial for felonious assault in December 2022. Last September, Megan opened up to ET about what inspired her new album.
“I feel like I’m in such a new space, like everything about me is new,” Megan said. “My attitude, my vibe. I feel like I’m starting a new chapter in my life. I think I’ve been through so much and I’m at a point where I don’t care about a lot of things. I’m so comfortable in my own skin. I’m like, ‘OK, at this point, girl, what’s the worst that can happen?’ I’m just taking risks right now.”
“I always like to think of myself as a confident person, I always (act) like I didn’t really care, I was indifferent, but it got me through things where so many people were talking about me constantly, where I had to realize, ‘OK, maybe you’re not as aloof and carefree as you thought you were,'” she confessed. “So, I had to take a step back (and) re-evaluate myself. I had to get into a comfortable place with myself, and now I can truly say that I’m in love with Megan. I’m in love with Megan Thee Stallion.”
