“Fuck that. They can’t fire me again,” Padalecki said, before giving his “brutally authoritative” take on the community.
After being a headliner on The CW (and its predecessor, The WB) for over 20 years, Jared Padalecki is saying goodbye to the community after the start of walker – and sharing his very candid thoughts on the course The CW appears to be taking.
In an interview with Selectionrevealed on Tuesday, the actor criticized the community — which is run by Nexstar Media Group — for canceling walker, criticizing the CW for showing that it is buying and selling high-quality scripted TV shows with “very easy, low-cost content.”

“I feel like the CW that I was a part of last year is not the CW that I was a part of under (former chairman and CEO) Mark Pedowitz for this entire period of almost 20 years,” Padalecki said. “They’re just changing the network, where it’s probably not going to be a TV network as much as it’s going to be, ‘Here’s something fun for an hour that you’ll never watch again, but I hope you watch it. And it’s low-budget!’ And I hate to say it, but I’m just being trustworthy. I mean, fuck it. They can’t fire me again. I’m just being brutally trustworthy. I think it felt to me like they were looking for very simple, cheap content that they could make up for their time with.”
Padalecki made his network debut in 2000 with his breakout role as Dean Forester in Gilmore Womenappearing in the collection until 2005, when it was cast in Supernatural. The WB grew into The CW in 2006, and Supernatural remained with Community for an incredible 11 seasons, before signing on in 2020. The following year, Padalecki led — and produced — walkera reinterpretation of the traditional Chuck Norris. The CW canceled the collection last month because the fourth season was airing. O walker the collection’s finale aired on Wednesday.

When Variety asked Padalecki if The CW gave him a reason for the cancellation — such as budgets — he said, “Yes. I talked to the top of CBS (studios) and the top of Nexstar/CW, I talked to the opposite (executive producers) on the walkerand I believe it was a kind of multivariate challenge.”
“My understanding is — and again, this is exactly what I’ve been told — that Nexstar is following a special course with The CW,” he added of the media company, which acquired The CW in 2022. “I mean, they have an hour of Trivial Pursuit and an hour of Crosswords developing. I don’t know why you wouldn’t just get the app or pick up a board game and play with your friends, but they’re clearly simple — what’s that cool quote? It’s like, ‘If someone tells you who they are, ask questions. If someone reveals who they are, think about them.’”
During an interview with TV LinePadalecki spoke about his 24 years in community TV, revealed how he’s feeling now and shared his thoughts on how he feels about the business now.
“I was exhausted 20 years ago,” he said, amused. “I’m me am Exhausted. Once I came across this walker it wasn’t going to go to a fifth season, which was on a Tuesday, and I left for Europe on a Friday, half work, half fun. However, I was in Europe for about three and a half weeks with family and a little bit of work, a lot of traveling. So, I’ve only been in the US for 4 days in the last month, and so, I haven’t really had time to fully understand.”

“However, I am definitely exhausted. I am drained. I’m grateful. Like, I’m not digging ditches. I’m not doing Pink Cross work and saving human beings,” he added. “However, yes, I’m pretty burned out. I’m a little disillusioned with the state of the business that I love and have been working in for 24 years. So I have a lot to think about, and I have a lot of time to be with my wife and our kids, my friends, and think about where this business is.”
As for what’s next for Padalecki, he said he doesn’t think he needs to be tied down to a long-running TV show again, but he hinted that he’s curious about something smaller that doesn’t require him to make so many sacrifices, especially being away from his home. family.
“With TV shows, sometimes it lasts 15 years, and sometimes they say, ‘Hey, where do you live? OK, we’re taking photos in Vancouver,” said Padalecki, who shares children Thomas, Austin and Odette with wife Genevieve Padalecki. “You say, ‘But my family, my wife and kids are in Austin.’ Like, ‘Well, good for them. They will come with a transfer right here. Here’s a thousand dollars to take them. It is not for the weak of mind. Like, you really have to sacrifice a lot, and I sacrificed all I have had to sacrifice for many, many years, and I believe I have reached a point in my life where I need to spend more time with my wife and children.”
“If a job on a TV show comes up, as I spoke to Kripke about The boys things like, ‘Yeah, I’ll play with you for a month. Yeah, I’ll play with you for 2 months, for six weeks, or whatever,’ or ‘Yeah, I’ll show up every week of every month for the next three months.'”
