Roomies, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced a nationwide recall of more than 60 ice creams.

On Monday, June 24, the FDA issued the announcement with a warning shared through its official website. The association explained that the manufacturer “Totally Cool Inc. of Owings Mills, Maryland, is recalling several brands of ice cream.” This is due to the products being potentially “contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes”.
The association explained that “Listeria monocytogenes” is an organism that can cause serious and potentially fatal infections in children, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems. Additionally, if pregnant women are infected, they may experience miscarriages and stillbirths.
Additionally, the FDA noted that the infection can affect “healthy individuals.” If affected, symptoms for these individuals include “high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea.”
Finally, the notice explained that the potentially impacted ice creams were distributed throughout the country.
Which products are potentially contaminated?
According to the FDA report, the recall affected 13 ice cream brands. These include Friendly, Abilyn’s Frozen Bakery, Hershey’s, Yelloh!, Jeni’s, Cumberland Farms, The Frozen Farmer, March, ChipWich, AMAFruits, Taharka, Dolcezza GelatoIt is La Salle.

What should consumers do?
According to the FDA, no illnesses have been reported to date. However, the association adds that consumers who purchased potentially impacted products should “return them to the place of purchase for a full refund”.
Meanwhile, Totally Cool, Inc. has reportedly “ceased production and distribution of the affected products.”
“The company continues its investigation and is taking preventive measures,” the FDA notice adds. “No other products produced by Totally Cool, Inc. are affected by this recall.”
