The moment a massive sinkhole swallowed part of an Illinois football field was captured on a surveillance camera — and it’s jaw-dropping, to say the least.
Get this – a light pole was dramatically sucked into the ground in Gordon Moore Park on Wednesday… leaving behind a hole at least 100 feet wide and 50 feet deep.
The scene looked like something out of a disaster movie… with clouds of smoke billowing into the sky as the ground collapsed.
Other mind-blowing drone footage captures a bird’s-eye view of the aftermath… truly showing the sinkhole’s colossal size.
The sinkhole was credited to the collapse of an underground mine – and Alton Parks and Recreation Director Michael Haynes called the situation an anomaly, noting that these mines have been there for decades without problems.
All scheduled park events have been canceled while the sinkhole incident is investigated.
