The president of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulidis, expressed the expectation that there will be an agreement regarding the leaders of the European institutions, stating that he will have a bilateral meeting with the Prime Minister of Italy, Giorgia Meloni.
“I want to repeat that this is our desire and expectation and in this sense we are working within the framework of our possibilities, so that there is a conclusion today. We have to decide today. I will also have a meeting with the Prime Minister of Italy, specifically exclusively on this subject and I hope that we conclude today so that we can move on to the discussion of the most important issues that are on the agenda, which is the strategic agenda of the European Union”, stated the President of Cyprus for Democracy, present at the Brussels Summit.
Responding to a question about whether there is any request from Georgia Meloni and whether he has had any other contact with her, Mr Christodoulidis clarified that he had contact with her last night. “We also spoke today and we will meet as soon as he arrives in Brussels. I can see some of his concerns. I want to be completely honest. But we have to find a solution all together”, he stressed.
Regarding developments in the Middle East, he expressed the hope that there will be a conclusion on this issue, “taking into account the worrying developments and information that we are all hearing”. “We see what the situation is. As a member state of the European Union, the Republic of Cyprus has also received some warnings. We see other states trying to streamline the situation,” she noted.
Finally, he said that the Republic of Cyprus will play its role, “which is always a role with a positive approach”.
