Jaguar Land Rover has not indicated whether it plans to offer a modern model Defender Pickupbut a Dutch company specializing in modified Defenders is now offering one.
The company is Heritage Customswhich is co-owned by Niels van Roij, an automotive designer whose Niels van Roij Design has offered body specials in the past, such as a two-door version of the previous generation Range Rover and a Tribute to the Ferrari Breadvan based on the 550 Maranello. The company also currently offers a Modern Convertible Defenderwhich is another body style that JLR has yet to commit to.
Heritage Customs’ Defender pickup is known as the Valiance Pickup and is based on the stretched version Defender 130 SUV. Heritage Customs designed the modifications in-house and carries out the transformation at its headquarters in Apeldoorn, the Netherlands.
The cost is 155,000 euros (approximately 166,150 dollars), and that includes the donor Advocate, in this case a Defender 130 X Dynamic SE.
The bed doesn’t appear to be particularly large, although for extra storage space Heritage Customs has added a roof rack. A matching sport rear end is also fitted to the vehicle.
The conversion takes approximately three months to complete and includes not only installing a bed where the donor SUV’s third row would normally be, but also a full exterior paint job, a custom leather interior package, custom wheels and decals.
Heritage Customs also offers a variety of additional options and accessories. One of these is what the company calls Magic Metal. According to the company, it can apply a metallic surface through a painting process, and can even undergo an oxidation process to create a rust effect. This means that ordinary plastic parts can look like aged metal with decades of patina.
