Kelly Bensimon called off her wedding to financier Scott Litner because he didn’t sign a prenup.
“He thought I would join this union without the legal protections in place, that I would leave everything to religion,” the “Real Housewives of New York City” alum told Entertainment Tonight.
“But I have worked very, very hard as a single mother and have always made sensible decisions for myself and my family, and that can continue.”
Bensimon’s rep also told the outlet that the real estate agent is unhappy with the broken engagement, but it was “clear” to her on Tuesday afternoon that the nuptials would not work out because he would not sign the legal document. .
“To be clear, he refused to sign a prenup and I refused to marry him,” she added in a statement to People. “I totally cease.”
Litner did not respond to Page Six’s requests for comment.
Web site Page Six broke the news on Tuesday that the former reality star broke up with Litner, 55, just 4 days before they were set to get married — and on the same day she was supposed to pick up her third wedding dress at Kleinfeld’s.
“I have decided that my two daughters are my priority and I will not be moving forward with this marriage,” Bensimon, 56, said in a statement before asking for privacy.
The now-former couple are expected to say “I do” in Litner’s mother’s backyard in Boston in front of family and friends on Saturday.
Agent Douglas Elliman recently enjoyed a mini bachelorette trip with her two daughters Sea, 26, and Teddy, 24, at Sandals Dunn’s River in Jamaica.
The socialite and Morgan Stanley employee got engaged last year during a Fourth of July trip to Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, near where she grew up.
