Two private elderly care units were “arrested” for operating without a license, fire protection and necessary qualified staff.
This was established following an audit carried out by the National Transparency Authority (NDA) on the two for-profit units based in Attica.
The purpose of the audit was to determine the quality and adequacy of the facilities, equipment and services offered, the living conditions of the elderly, as well as compliance with the Unit’s licensing process.
During the inspection it was found that a unit did not have an establishment license or operating license and the other operating license. Despite the fact that, by the competent Regional Units, decisions were made to impose fines and cease their operation, informed to the competent Public Prosecutor’s Office, the units continued to operate.
Furthermore, they did not have an (active) fire protection certificate from the competent Fire Department, at the same time as they did not have the prescribed numerical and specialized personnel (nurses, physiotherapist, social worker, psychologist).
The audit reports were sent to the Athens First Instance Prosecutor’s Office for correlation with the respective cases and to the relevant regional units in the Attica region for actions within the scope of their responsibilities.
