Kevin Feige confirmed most of fans’ suspicions based on rumors and early artwork: Marvel’s The fantastic Four the film will be a period piece.
Feige revealed this information about the premiere episode of The Official Marvel Podcast. When asked whether the retro vibes of the teaser art Marvel revealed a few months ago, like the old-school feel of the Fantastic Four’s blue jumpsuits, suggested the film was set in the past, the typically reserved Feige was unusually blunt in his response:
It’s a period (play). And there was another piece of art that we released with Johnny Storm flying in the air and making a 4 symbol and there was a cityscape in the corner for that image. And a lot of smart people realized that the cityscape didn’t look exactly like the New York we know, or the New York that existed in the 1960s in our world. And those are very smart observations, I will say.

Here’s that other piece of art Feige mentioned. You can see that the skyline is decidedly ’60s-inspired and also not true to the real-world New York City of that period.
The real question is, which of these buildings should be the home base of the Fantastic Four, the Baxter Building?
Marvel’s Fantastic Four will be Pedro Pascal as Mr. Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby as the Invisible Woman, Joseph Quinn as the Human Torch and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as the Thing. WandaVisionMatt Shakman will direct.
Fantastic Four is scheduled to open in theaters on July 25, 2025. Feige also revealed on the Official Marvel Podcast that the film begins production the Monday after this year’s San Diego Comic-Con.
