The lead singer of American rap-rock band Loopy City, Shifty Shellshock has died.
The “Butterfly” singer – whose initial title was Seth Binzer – was 49 years old. He died Monday at a residence in Los Angeles, according to the Los Angeles medical examiner. The reason for death has not yet been disclosed.
Shellshock is survived by his three children, Halo, Gage and Phoenix.

The Los Angeles vocalist met Loopy City co-founder Bret Mazur (aka Epic) in 1992 when they began making music under the title Brimstone Sluggers. The group then changed to the title Loopy City and expanded its lineup by signing Rust Epique, Doug Miller, James Bradley Jr., Antonio Lorenzo Valli and Adam Goldstein.
His debut album, The gift of sport, was released in November 1999 and the band supported the Crimson Hot Chili Peppers on tour soon after. Their first hit, “Butterfly” (an ode to alluring girls), topped the Billboard 100 and catapulted the band’s album to platinum status in 2001.
The song samples “Fairly Little Ditty” by the Crimson Hot Chili Peppers and features Shellshock’s signature rapping style for its iconic lyrics – “Come my girl, come-come my woman // You are my Butterfly, Sugar Child”
Loopy City went on hiatus in 2003 after the release of their second album, Dark horse. Nevertheless the band reunited in 2007. They released their third album The Sulfur Sluggersin 2015.
During the band’s hiatus, Shellshock released his debut solo album Comfortable sick love in 2004. The artist has also been open about his struggle with addiction throughout his career, appearing on current TV shows including VH1 shows. Movie star rehabilitation It is sober house.
