Princess Annethe sister of King Charles IIIis suffering from memory loss after an accident at his country house at the weekend which left her hospitalized with a concussiona royal source told ET.
“It is understood that Princess Anne was unable to recall the details of what happened on Sunday night due to her concussion,” the source said.
On Monday, a Buckingham Palace spokesperson released a statement confirming that the 73-year-old royal suffered injuries at her Gatcombe Park estate.
“His Royal Highness remains at Southmead Hospital in Bristol as a precautionary measure for observation and is expected to make a full and speedy recovery. to the Princess for a speedy recovery,” read part of the statement.
It has been reported that horses were nearby when the incident occurred, and Anne’s injuries are consistent with an impact to the head caused by a horse’s leg or hoof.
ET’s sources shared that Anne’s husband, Sir Tim Laurence, gave an update on his wife’s condition on Tuesday after a well-wisher asked about her recovery. Tim was also spotted entering the hospital to visit his wife on the same day.
“‘She’s recovering well, thank you,” Tim told the well-wisher. ”We are deeply grateful to the hospital’s medical staff and support staff for their expert care – and to the emergency services who were all so wonderful on site. We are deeply touched by all the kind messages we have received from so many people near and far.'”
As a result of the accident, the princess’s commitments for next week – which included a trip to Canada – were postponed.
Before her hospitalization, Anne was seen last week at Royal Ascot alongside members of the royal family. The Princess Royal was also present during the 2024 Trooping the Color ceremony on June 15, where she appeared on the balcony with King Charles and other royals – including Kate Middleton, who made her public debut at the event three months after sharing her cancer diagnosis.
