Kelly Stafford is addressing the “media storm” that followed his confession about dating a Georgia backup QB to make Matthew Stafford jealous… apologizing to the man some people THOUGHT she was referencing in the joke.
In case you missed it… Kelly appeared on the ‘Off the Vine’ podcast earlier this month, where she recalled how she got her now-husband when she was a cheerleader in Athens. During the show, she admitted to going after his support first to get his attention… and of course, the plan finally worked.

However, the subsequent comments on social media weren’t about Kelly and Matthew’s slow start… they were more about the identification of the unidentified backup – and many assumed it was Joe Cox.
With the story spreading like wildfire, Kelly finally broke her silence on Tuesday. On Instagram, Stafford responded to haters who claimed she was “embarrassing” the Rams superstar with the story … because she insists Matthew doesn’t care at all.
She also sent a heartfelt message to Cox and her family… sharing her regret for getting them involved in her mess, especially considering Joe was NOT the backup QB she was talking about.
It turns out that Joe was already dating his current wife when her whole story happened… and Kelly says his relationship served as inspiration for what she wanted with Matthew.
Neither Joe nor his wife have commented publicly on the matter, but it’s likely we’ll never hear from them… as they’ve apparently remained pretty quiet over the past few weeks.
While Kelly probably hopes this saga is behind her… the clip of her story will live on in Internet history.
