The Independent Public Revenue Authority (AADE) is expected to send thousands of electronic messages in the coming period in order to inform professionals who need to install the IRIS payment system and register a business account.
By the 24th of the month, 315 thousand professionals had already carried out the procedures mentioned above, a total of 715 thousand who are obliged to do so based on the current calendar, which is June 30th.
However, the Minister of National Economy and Finance, Kostis Hatzidakis, announced that finance staff intend to grant a short extension, the exact duration of which will be determined in the coming days.
“In a few days the deadline that we had established for the inclusion of self-employed and self-employed professionals in the system will expire. We are willing to give a small extension to facilitate the process – taking into account that lately everyone’s attention has been focused on the interconnection of cash registers with POS and perhaps there has not been the mobilization that would have been desired” noted Mr. Hatzidakis in the plenary of the annual meeting of the Hellenic Banking Association.
The fines
Until the new deadline is defined, it is not expected that the expected fines will be applied from July 1st.
Its value amounts to 1,500 euros for those who do not install the IRIS system after the deadline to be announced, while those responsible who do not declare their business account to AADE will be charged an extra administrative fine of 1,000 euros. For those who are fined and pay within 30 days of notification, the amount will be reduced by 50%.
Furthermore, in case of complaints from citizens due to non-acceptance of payments with IRIS by professionals, these will be notified by the competent bodies to AADE and the General Secretariat for Tax Policy to be taken into account during planning and execution. of controls, under its competence.
As already announced by the Minister of Economy and National Finance Kostis Hatzidakis, by March 31, 2025 the direct payments system will be extended to all companies. The expansion concerns the entire range of transactions, both electronic and physical commerce.
Based on the latest figures, instant payments are growing by leaps and bounds as registered IRIS users now exceed 2.7 million.
Banking Supplies
The issue of public contracts is another issue that has been repeatedly mentioned by the Minister of National Economy. And this time he did not fail to mention the specific issue, highlighting that “in terms of charging customers, there are always ideas, either from the European banking market or from other branches of the Greek economy, that banks could adopt”. I am certain that Greek banks will move forward, each in their own way and based on their commercial policy, in this direction, without needing any other intervention. Not resolving this issue offers nothing to the banks, the government, or society.”
It should be noted that in the previous period, Hatzidakis had made a recommendation to banks to increase the daily limit for using the IRIS system for consumers, to 500 euros for transfers to individuals plus 500 euros for payments to companies, that is, a total of 1,000 euros per day from 500 euros today.
