Comic Aries Spears is urging black men to abandon any preconceived, homophobic notions about colonoscopies and undergo the potentially life-saving process… just like he did.
The “MADtv” alum posted an update Tuesday from his hospital bed and revealed that doctors found two polyps during his colonoscopy. In his caption, Aries admitted that he was already worried about the process… confessing that he had rescheduled his appointment out of fear that the doctors would stick a large digital camera up his butt.
Aries cited homophobia in the black community as the reason more black people don’t get health screenings.
He added… “We confuse getting a health check, ‘having a doctor put his finger up your ass’, with homosexuality. Stop this. Get a colonoscopy. They put you to sleep. You get up and don’t even know your ass has been tampered with.
Not exactly what doctors would say, but you get his point.
Aries isn’t the first star to raise awareness about the importance of colonoscopies. Remember, again in 2022, Ryan Reynolds documented his first to encourage others to get as many cancer screenings as possible.
Ryan, alongside his “Welcome to Wrexham” co-star Rob McElhenney, invited cameras to document their knowledge. Just like Aries did, Ryan discovered he had a polyp… and Rob actually had 3, which the docs ruled out, stat.
Jimmy Kimmel, Kristen Bell, Brief Martinamong others, they also advocated colonoscopies.
Aries’ message stands out for its direct and essential message for black men… as early detection is actually the difference between life and death.
