Tom Hanks and Robin Wright look much younger in the first photos from “Here,” their long-awaited reunion with “Forrest Gump” director Robert Zemeckis. The film was co-written by Zemeckis and “Forrest Gump” screenwriter Eric Roth.
Based on Richard McGuire’s 2014 graphic novel of the same name, “Here” is set over the course of a century in a single location. The camera never pans from a hard, fast place inside a house throughout the entire 104-minute running time, as viewers are taken into the stories of the people who built a house there. The central couple is played by Hanks and Wright.
“The one perspective never changes, but everything around it changes,” Zemeckis recently told Vainness Honest about the formidable concept of storytelling. “In fact, it has never been completed before. There are similar scenes in early silent films, before the invention of the language of montage. But other than that, yes, it was a risky venture.”
“That’s the thrill,” Zemeckis added. “What passes for this vision of the universe? I think it’s an attention-grabbing technique to meditate on mortality. It addresses the common theme that all the plays go through.
Hanks stars as baby boomer Richard and Wright plays his late teenage girlfriend and eventual wife Margaret. In terms of traditional makeup effects and digital de-aging technology, Hanks appears as young as a teenager and as old as an 80-year-old man throughout the film’s decades.
“I was always, for some reason, labeled as this guy with visible results. But they were always there to serve the character arc,” Zemeckis told Vainness Honest. “There was always a restlessness in the attempt. I’ve always thought that our job as filmmakers is to show viewers things they don’t see in real life.”
“It only works because the performances are so good,” he added. “Both Tom and Robin immediately understood that, ‘Okay, now we have to go back and channel who we were 50 years ago or 40 years ago, and now we have to maintain that energy, that kind of stance, and even raise our voices. That kind of factor.”
Other characters who appear indoors in “Here” over the decades are Richard’s parents, Al (Paul Bettany) and Rose (Kelly Reilly), a turn-of-the-20th-century couple (Michelle Dockery and Gwilym Lee), and an inventor. and 1920s pin-up model (David Fynn and Ophelia Lovibond), among others.
The public hasn’t exactly embraced the results of aging over the years. Filmmakers like Martin Scorsese, Ang Lee and James Mangold tried to impress by aging big stars like Robert De Niro (“The Irishman”), Will Smith (“The Gemini Man”) and Harrison Ford (“Indiana Jones and the Future Dial”). , however not all viewers were satisfied. George Miller even said that it was the dubious results of aging in films like “The Irishman” that made him not age Charlize Theron for his “Mad Max” prequel, “Furiosa,” because the experience simply isn’t up to par. the brand, but.
“Right Here” will open in theaters nationwide on November 15th on Sony. Try the stills from the film below first.
