The controversy over whether it is possible to hold elections on the November dates proposed by Haris Doukas continues between Harilaos Trikoupis and the mayor of Athens.
From Haris Doukas’ team, following the previous and rather ironic reaction from PASOK circles, they noted: “We inform you that the first round of elections for the emergence of the center-left leadership was held on November 12, 2017, which is, Marathon day. In these elections Mr. Androulakis himself participated as a candidate. In fact, therefore, run he is a terrible advisor.
There was a first reaction from Harilaou Trikoupis circles to Haris Doukas’ proposal to hold internal party elections on November 3 and 10.
He referred to her:
“Haste is a bad advisor at all levels. As is known, the Central Political Committee of PASOK-Movement for Change will meet on Sunday, June 30, to decide on the roadmap. Therefore, we would expect Mr. Doukasattend the meeting of the body of which you are a member and express your opinions, and not communicate them to PASOK-Movimento pela Change through third-party e-mail. The fact that the Mayor of Athens does not know that the marathon will be held on November 10, 2024, the date he proposes for the second round of the party’s internal elections, is impressive.
The Duke proposal
It is recalled that in his letter before the crucial meeting of the PASOK Central Committee next Sunday, Haris Doukas described a roadmap that will lead to elections in November, specifically on the 3rd and 10th of the month.
Among other things, Mr. Doukas proposes holding a Pan-Hellenic Conference, at the beginning of October, to discuss political developments and the central political axes of the Movement, with the participation of representatives of the party and social bodies. He also calls for the creation of ballot boxes for the election of the president by members and friends of the party, with proposed dates of November 3 and 10 and “with the transparent and credible processes that took place in the 2017 and 2021 elections”.
The new intervention by the Mayor of Athens comes at a time when the agitation in the Movement is intensifying with an eye on the Central Committee, where it is expected that the president of PASOK Nikos Androulakis will once again be ahead of those who question him and present his plan for rebuilding the party.
Without having opened his documents on whether he will run for PASOK leadership, Haris Doukas declared himself present at the developments, pointing out that he wants PASOK to “win the bet” and that he himself will do “everything he can” to achieve this objective .
NextI the whole sentence tHarry Doukas who was sent to the Secretary of KPE and the press representative of PASOK-Movement for Change:
“Dear comrades,
On Sunday, 06/30/2024, we have the crucial meeting of the Central Political Committee.
The objective of all of us is to discuss and co-decide the restart we need, so that PASOK – Movement for Change becomes the great force that will lead to progressive governance in the country.
This presupposes creative discussion, without tensions and polarizations.
It is understandable that the work of the KPE must be carried out with absolute transparency and democracy, without exclusions.
The fruitful discussion that I hope will occur needs to result in a roadmap for our next steps.
Specifically, I recommend:
Let’s celebrate together the 50th anniversary of PASOK’s founding declaration on September 3rd.
Hold a Pan-Hellenic Conference, at the beginning of October, to discuss political developments and the central political axes of our Movement, with the participation of representatives of our Movement and social bodies, as provided for in the statute.
Let us then proceed in an orderly manner to vote on the nomination of our members and friends for the new leadership of PASOK.
I propose that the vote be held on the 3rd and 10th of November, with the transparent and credible processes that took place in the 2017 and 2021 elections.
I believe the script guarantees:
First: The possibility of a political debate on the necessary restart and reconstruction of PASOK-Movement for Change.
Second: The determination of leadership elections, at a time that does not allow long-term processes that lead to introversion.
I hope we all rise to the occasion and our responsibility to the citizens and the country.”
