In developments regarding the use of the country’s constitutional name as “North Macedonia”said the Commission representative on enlargementAna Pisonero.
As he characteristically stated: “The use of the constitutional name of North Macedonia is something that was agreed in the context of Prespa Agreement».
When asked if the Commission knows that some do not use the constitutional name and what its reaction is, Ana Pisonero said that “The EU regretted the non-use by some of North Macedonia’s leaders of the constitutional name of North Macedonia. This is clearly something that was agreed as part of the Prespa agreement. AND It is clear that all parties must respect the terms of the agreements and implement them in good faith.”
For the integration of North Macedonia into the EU
“For our part, we congratulated Prime Minister Mickoski and the new ministers following the formation of the coalition government in North Macedonia. The EU will work closely with the new government to progress significant reforms and advance North Macedonia’s path for the EU. I think the message is clear,” he added.
The spokeswoman stressed that “North Macedonia must make the most of the momentum that exists for enlargement in order to advance decisively on its path to the EU. Everyone knows very well what the European Council has made clear it expects from North Macedonia. And obviously that. it is also related to the constitutional changes that North Macedonia essentially committed to making in order to continue on its path towards the European Union”.
