The lawyer who helped free Britney Spears her Guardianship of 13 years split from the pop star.
According to multiple reports, Mathew Rosengart is stepping down from representing the 42-year-old singer after tying up the last loose end in the conservatorship case in April following a years-long financial dispute with her father, Jamie Spears. A source at the time told ET that Britney was ready to leave all of that behind, completely.
At the time, Rosengart also said in a statement that the pop star’s “desire for freedom is now truly complete.”
As first reported by CNN, Rosengart officially separated from the singer following the settlement, which officially and fully freed Britney from the probate system. The network said Rosengart, a partner at the Los Angeles-based firm Greenberg Traurig, will focus on his large caseload for other clients.
“I have been honored to work with and protect Britney, who is and will always be an icon, and more specifically, to have helped restore the fundamental rights and civil liberties we took from her, which has always been our focus,” Rosengart said later. in a statement to People.
Britney, who currently appears to be vacationing in Mexico, engaged Rosengart in 2021 as she attempted to end her conservatorship. She then gave explosive testimony at a hearing, sharing that she would like nothing more than “to have end guardianship without being evaluated”, as well as regaining control of her life. She also shared a series of shocking allegations against his father and his team.
She had already been represented by a court-appointed attorney before Britney hired Rosengart. He was at the forefront and led the charge to help Britney get out of conservatorship that the pop star stated had a stronghold over his finances, career and personal lifeand even their reproductive decisions.
In September 2021, Jamie was finally suspended from his position as conservative. Less than two months later, on November 12, 2021, and with the world watchingjudge Brenda Penny decided that the guardianship would be closed.
“I think you can assume she’s very happy,” Rosengart said at the time, adding that “the goal” was to free Britney from her conservatorship by her 40th birthday on December 2, 2021.
