The recruitment of 300 new special guards was announced by the Minister of Citizen Protection Michalis Chrysochoidis. “We are going to hire 300 new special guards, the recruitment procedures will begin in a few days,” he said in statements to ERT.
As I said, the positions will be announced within a few days, at the same time as attempts are made to transfer cops in combat services.
The Minister for Citizen Protection highlighted that there is an unequal distribution of police officers, highlighting that 70% of crime in Greece is located in Attica, 20% in Thessaloniki and 10% in the rest of the country.
“Thesprotia has 650 police officers and 45,000 to 50,000 residents. Peristeri, which has 250,000 inhabitants, has 80 police officers, we cannot stay like this,” he said.
As I said, many police officers returned, but the needs in Attica are great because “there is a complex project”.
In relation to domestic violence, Mr Chrysochoidis said that in recent weeks 550 incidents have been recorded, of which 350 arrests have been made. Last night, in fact, there were 61 arrests for domestic violence, half of which were located in Attica.
