The ferry ship THALASITIS (IM0 nº: 8604711) was moored at New Molos Drapetsonas.
At around 7:10 am, a fire broke out in the vehicle loading area (garage), which was immediately noticed, due to the thick smoke coming from inside, by the 24-hour Operations Room shift staff.
The MEDTUGS announcement
MEDTUGS, according to its announcement, immediately mobilized a fleet excerpts from a film/ from their firefighting ships, which first arrived at the burning ship and immediately began dropping water from their firefighting jets (cannons).
Specifically, the first of the tugs to arrive, at around 7:25 am, was the “VERNICOS SlFNOS” followed directly by our tugs “IFESTOS 2”, “VERNIKOS PEARL”, “ALEXANDER 5” and “HECTOR”. The tugboats immediately began pouring water on the burning ship and its firefighting capacity was 1 X 2,400 cubic meters of water per hour, 2 X 1,200 cubic meters of water/hour and 2
All five tugboats continued to dump water on the burning ship in difficult conditions and with limited visibility, while thick black smoke billowed from the interior of the burning ship.
At around 08:00, fire engines and firefighters arrived from land in Neos Molos, having also started fighting the fires.
35 minutes later the fire inside the ship was successfully extinguished and after consulting the Fire Department, the tugboats, as highlighted by MEDTUGS, left the ship returning to their base and/or scheduled towing tasks.
“Thanks to the timely and successful intervention of our tugboats in fighting fires, the risk of fire spreading on the ship was limited, as well as any pollution of the marine environment was avoided/Furthermore, with the action of our tugboats, the risk of the spread of fire to adjacent vessels moored to the stern, namely in:
-on the HSC “SPEEDRlJNNER JET 2” which was moored at Neos Molos close to and on the port side of the “THALASSITIS”, and
-on the MIV “HARDINGEN” which was moored at the nearby New Pier and on the starboard side of the “THALASSlTlS”” they say characteristically.
