At an event where most of the traditional powers of the “Old Continent” were completely absent (Italy, France, Netherlands), or sent small and weakened teams (Great Britain, Germany, Sweden), the Greek delegation saw an opportunity ahead them and took advantage of it.
He won a total of 17 medals, five gold (the most in the event’s history until this year), eight silver and four bronze. Ahead of Greece was only Hungary, which left with an almost complete lineup and dominated with 10 golds and 27 medals in total.
