A London cinema canceled the premiere of a film with a script created by Artificial Intelligence after a negative reaction on social media.
The Prince Charles Cinema, located in London’s West End, was set to host the screening of a new film titled ‘The Last Screenwriter’ last week. However, the cinema’s management later announced that the premiere would not take place.
The social media post says: “The feedback we received over the last 24 hours, after we promoted the film, highlighted the strong concern many of our audience have about the use of AI rather than a script that shows a broader issue within the industry.”
Directed by Peter Luisi and starring Nicolas Pople, the film ‘The Last Screenwriter’ is a Swiss production that tells the story of a ‘famous screenwriter’ who ‘sees his world shaken when he discovers an AI script writing system’. He soon realizes that the AI not only rivals his abilities, but even surpasses him in empathy and understanding human emotions.”
The film’s script is from ChatGPT 4.0. of the latest version of OpenAI technology, GPT-4o, released in May.
Speaking to the Daily Beast, the director said the premiere was canceled after receiving 200 complaints online, but a private screening for the cast and crew would be held in London.
