Joana Vassos‘ restriction on The golden bachelorette It won’t be her first time in front of the camera. In an exclusive interview with ET’s Denny Directo, the new leader of the franchise revealed that she was an extra in the 1985 film St. Elmo’s Fire.
The stunning discovery came when ET asked Joan about her celebrity crush.
“I love Rob Lowe. I think he’s so handsome and funny and a great actor,” Joan responded, before revealing, “I was actually an extra in a movie he was in, so I met him in person. I’ve loved him since I was 21. I was in St. Elmo’s Fire. You can see me in a split second as an extra.”
In fact, Joan can be seen just over 52 minutes into the film, riding her bike past a fraternity house while Billy Hicks (Lowe) watches. The iconic film, starring Emilio Estevez, Demi Moore, Andrew McCarthy, Judd Nelson and others, follows a group of recent college graduates as they embark on a series of misadventures in the real world.
Lowe isn’t the only celebrity Joan likes.
“I love Kevin Costner. Since Yellow stone“I just think he’s the rugged, sexy guy,” she told ET. Kind of the opposite of Rob Lowe, who is kind of polished. He is so beautiful.”
Although the actors are unlikely to appear The golden bachelorette, Joan is excited about the many men she will soon meet. As for what she looks for in a partner, Joan admitted, “There’s a long list, so this is going to be a tough job.”
“Obviously (he needs to be) kind and a family man,” she said. “My father was the greatest gentleman. He opened doors, carried everything, jumped when a woman entered the room, was always polite, never swore, he was simply a gentleman. That’s so charming and endearing to me.”
“I’m also looking for someone who has a bit of a sense of adventure. I worked my whole life to get to this place in life and planned to have all those adventures with John,” Joan continued of her late husband, who died in 2021 after a battle with pancreatic cancer at age 59.
“When all that went away, I really missed the idea of planning a future with someone and doing fun things,” she said. “I’m ready for someone who has a little sense of adventure and ready to have fun. You can only do it once. You can only live once. It’s a big world and I’m ready to see it. I feel like I had to move.”
That doesn’t mean there aren’t problems, as Joan explained: “I hate someone who’s rude to a clerk or a waitress or the cashier at the grocery store. It really turns me off. Like, I’m walking away from you right now.”
“You need to be nice to everyone. Be kind. Just be kind. It’s not that hard,” she said. “Dating in nature is very different from dating here, so it will be difficult to reveal these things. This will be a little more difficult, but I will be careful.”
As she begins her journey to love, Joan said she plans to be an open book with her men and noted that she expects the same in return.
“I feel like being open is really, really important, telling things about yourself that people don’t know and making sure I do a good job of getting that out of men,” she said. “I don’t imagine they’re very open about their feelings, so this can be a bit of a struggle. I think it’s very important to make them feel comfortable. I need something in return, guys.”
Joan’s Journey to Love will air Wednesdays this fall on ABC.
