‘Everybody Hates Chris’ Returns
As The Shade Room previously reported, the popular sitcom series was announced to be getting a reboot in 2021. The following year, it was confirmed that Chris Rocha was turning ‘Everybody Hates Chris’ into an animated series.
According to pop cultureComedy Central announced that Chris Rock will return as narrator with original stars Tichina Arnold It is Terry Crews confirming that they will reprise their roles as Julius and Rochelle Rock in the animated series. Earlier this week, both actors expressed their excitement over the news via a Instagram Reel.
The series initially starred Tequan Richmond as Chris’s younger brother Drew, Imani Hakim as his younger sister Tonya, and Vicente Martella as his best friend Greg Wuliger.
PopCulture also noted that ‘Everybody Hates Chris’ premiered on UPN in 2005 and then moved to The CW following its merger with The WB, running for three more seasons until 2009. The show, starring Tyler James Williams as the titular character, is loosely based on Chris Rock’s adolescence in the Bed-Stuy area of Brooklyn, New York.
The outlet also reported that Williams, Richmond, Hakim and Martella will not return to the new series, but their characters will still appear. Instead of, Tim Johnson Jr. from ‘Saturdays’ will voice young Chris; Akagha ozioma from ‘Delilah’ will voice Chris’s feisty nanny, Tonya; Terrence Little Gardenhigh from ‘Danger Force’ will voice Chris’ younger brother, Drew; It is Gunnar Sizemore from ‘Kung Fu Panda’, will voice Chris’s friend Greg.
When speaking with TV LineCBS Chairman and CEO George Cheeks praised Chris Rock as one of the most talented comedians and expressed great excitement about partnering with him again.
“A reimagining of this innovative and critically acclaimed series has long been a source of creative discussions at our studio. It’s exciting to join forces with 3 Arts and the comedic genius of Chris Rock as he expands his vision of the original show in this innovative new format. This also marks another significant internal collaboration for CBS with Chris McCarthy and our valued partners at MTV Entertainment Studios as we jointly support this landmark series for Paramount+ and Comedy Central,” explained Cheeks.
The premiere date for ‘Everybody Hates Chris’ has not yet been revealed, but fans can stream all four seasons on Hulu in the meantime.
