The Boston Celtics are on a roll after winning their league-leading 18th NBA Championship, and the former Celtics star has become the team’s announcer Cedric Maxwell is making sure the world knows where the best franchise resides – and it’s not LA!
Maxwell, a two-time NBA champion with the Celtics and named Finals MVP in 1981 (he played in Boston from 1977 to 1985), joined Babcock at the TMZ Sports Activities TV Gift (airs nightly on FS1) following Beantown’s 4-1 victory over the Western Convention champion Dallas Mavericks.
And in case you thought the Celtics wouldn’t match, they’ve now received more chips than their West Coast rivals, you’re wrong (the Lakers have 17)!
“To get another flag after being linked to the Fakers, it’s absolutely great to get around them now,” Maxwell said.
Cedric even mentioned some Lakers legends by name… James Worthy, Johnson MagicIt is Michael Cooper before hitting them with Stephen Currycharacteristic “Good Night” pose!
Maxwell didn’t start trolling Lakers devotees… and then mocking their game of the season banner hanging high above the Crypto.com environment.
“The Lakers are literally tied,” joked Maxwell. “They put that banner up mid-season, it looks a bit strange up there. They have number 18 if they want to be technical!
Speaking about what actually happened on the field, Maxwell isn’t trying to listen to anyone saying the team had an easy trip to the Finals (critics are saying it was an easy trip).
“Ultimately, you want to play the teams that are ahead of you,” Cedric said. “The perfect exit from the West was Dallas. The Celtics had the best performance in the East.
Maxwell also gave the young Celtics coach Joe Mazzulla your flowers. After just his second season in charge – taking over the role after Ime Udoka was fired following his scandal – Cedric said the 35-year-old is just getting started.
“Being one of the youngest coaches to win an NBA championship is as good as it gets,” Maxwell said. “He was telling me the day before he saw all the bangers, he said, ‘You know, I’m going to win one of these days.’ And I completely stated!
The excellent news for Celtics fans is the celebration It’s just beginning… and Maxwell will love every second of it.
Earplugs, Lakers followers!
