Its political center New Left met today for a first assessment of the electoral result, but also to plan their next moves.
According to sources, a common assessment was that both the abstention boom and the rise of the far right create an overall negative environment. “The defeat of New Democracy did not lead to the strengthening of progressive forces”, they emphasize, adding that “despite the stubbornness and selflessness with which the people of the New Left fought, the result was negative for us”.
New Left sources say that “the need for a militant and open-minded left remains” and that “the negative result does not invalidate our need and desire to continue the fight.”
The word to members
They announce that in the next period the floor will be given to members and friends of the New Left. In particular, they state that through open procedures they will be led to a meeting of the Pan-Hellenic Coordination Committee on the 29th and 30th of June, with the purpose of the meeting being the reporting of the electoral result, the preparation of the 1st conference of the New Left , as well as political initiatives for all open issues, such as the cost of living, but also anti-war movements.
“The organizational and political strengthening of the New Left will be a central issue in the aforementioned processes”, they note. They emphasize that “the New Left believes in the need for social and political fronts on the central issues of our time, such as the explosion of social inequalities, the climate crisis and the demand for peace against war planning and new arms races”, stressing that “ The above is a condition for creating an alternative proposal for society.”
