Kate Middleton It is King Charles III reconnected on the public stage for the first time in six months when they stood side by side on Saturday on the balcony of Buckingham Palace at Trooping the Color 2024 in London, England.
The Princess of Wales and the monarch waved to the crowd and immersed in the festivities, which included looking up as the Royal Air Force made its iconic appearance. It is the first time Kate and Charles have been seen together in public since announcing their cancer diagnosis earlier this year.
Kate and Charles were last together in public when the royal family attended the Christmas morning service at Sandringham Church on December 25 in Sandringham, Norfolk. But after the holidays were over, there was palpable concern just weeks into the new year when Kensington Palace on January 17th sent an alert that Kate had been admitted to the London Clinic for a planned abdominal surgery.
Two hours after this warning, it was announced that Charles would seek treatment for an enlarged prostate. Her Majesty would eventually be admitted to the London Clinic – where Kate was recovering – on the morning of January 26 to undergo surgery, but not before paying Kate a visit for the first time.
A source told ET back when the King and Queen Camilla “wanted to visit Kate” and see how she was doing before her prostate procedure. The king “absolutely adores his daughter-in-law,” another source close to the family told ET. They share a “warm bond” and he considers her a “wonderful mother” and has done a “remarkable job with her devotion to work on behalf of the monarchy.”
On January 29, Kate and Charles were released from the hospital. But the health updates were far from over.
Less than a week later, on February 5, Buckingham Palace announced that Charles had been diagnosed with cancer. Then, on March 22nd, Kate announced his own cancer diagnosis.
In that announcement, Kate said that she underwent abdominal surgery earlier this year and that her condition was thought to be non-cancerous. But tests following the operation “discovered that cancer was present”, leading her to undergo “preventive chemotherapy.”
The Princess of Wales then offered her most extensive health update on June 14, when she shared that she would be in treatment for “a few more months.” That said, she also warned that she is”hasn’t left the forest yet.”
“I’m looking forward to participating in the King’s Birthday Parade this weekend with my family and hoping to attend some public engagements over the summer,” she wrote in her statement, “but also knowing that I’m not out of the woods yet.”
