When it’s about Taylor Swiftbest friend song Blake Lively knows everything very well.
Although the world-famous singer and the beloved actress have been friends for nearly a decade, Lively is also Swift’s biggest fan.
“No, no, I really am,” she reiterated to ET’s Denny Directo during an interview at Book Bonanza in Texas on Friday. For the latest proof, just look at the fact that Lively recently participated in consecutive Eras Tour shows… in Spain, no less.
With a general love of Swift’s work and a very helpful connection to megawatt star Lively helped secure his 2020 track, “My Tears Ricocheted”, for trailer promotion the film adaptation of Colleen Hoover End with us.
“You could have put any song on, like, her music is just incomparable,” she said of Swift’s discography. “Her writing is so beautiful and so personal and you can feel it, you can feel it in the way she sings. You can feel it in his lyrics.”
As for the emotions on screen, Lively was tasked with conveying them as the film’s protagonist, Lily Bloom, who is suffering from an abusive relationship. As added pressure, the book has been a fan favorite since its release in 2016, with over a million copies sold.
“This story resonated with a lot of people, so there’s a big responsibility – I’m Spider-Man,” she said with a laugh. “There’s a big responsibility in that… You want to honor this book and this character that people love so much, but you also want to bring to it a life and a humanity that is, you know, true to who you are, so it’s a lot of different things, you know, that you want to accomplish in this story and I’m very proud of this film.
But fans of the book will feel the same? According to Lively and Hoover, they certainly should.
“Some people will always like a book more than a movie and some people will like a movie more than a book, but I think we did our best to honor the book and honor the fans and I think we really do something that works. Even by itself, like if you don’t know the book, the movie works, and I don’t think there’s any way that if – I don’t believe that if you read the book and saw the movie, you wouldn’t be moved,” he said. Lively. “We really worked hard on it, but I also believe that if you saw the movie and then read the book, you wouldn’t say, ‘Wait, that’s not it’… I think they’re both really beautiful.”
