Which ‘Power’ spin-off is ending?
According to Deadline, ‘Power Book IV: Force’ is coming to an end after three seasons. The outlet reports that the series’ showrunner and executive producer, Gary Lennon, has written a “fitting conclusion.” Furthermore, Lennon went on to develop another series in the ‘Power’ universe.
“It’s bittersweet to write the rewarding end to this chapter in Tommy’s journey, a character that fans and I have loved for the past decade,” Lennon said in a statement. “Season 3 will question everything we thought we knew about Tommy’s world and I promise it won’t disappoint! While this may be the end of the road for ‘Force,’ there is a much more expansive and compelling narrative for the characters in the Power Universe.”
As The Shadow Room Previously reported, the network that houses the ‘Power’ universe, Starz, announced the cancellation of another spin-off, ‘Power Book II: Ghost’ in March. At the time, it was reported that network CEO Jeffrey Hirsh wanted to “develop” more shows rather than sustain current ones for cost reasons.
“You look at the (Power) map and say, ‘OK, if I take one of these characters and spin one of them, I can bring it in to replace the ‘Power’ show at half the cost,’” he explained at the time. “…And I’m really not losing anything in terms of subscriber acquisition costs and audience, because we know what these demos want. And we know how to align them… with new content to drive the business.”
Around the same time, it was also announced that a new spin-off would enter the ‘Power’ universe, a show called ‘Origins’, by The Shadow Room. The series would explore the backstory of ‘Power’ stars James St. Patrick and Tommy Egan, played by Omari Hardwick and Joseph Sikora, respectively.
The star of the series takes to social media with a message
On Thursday, June 13, ‘Power Book IV: Force’ star Sikora took to Instagram to double down on the big announcement. In a short clip, the actor explained that while he and the producers were “mapping out” the series’ third season, they felt this would be the “perfect” time to conclude the series.
“But don’t worry, Tommy’s journey is far from over,” Sikora assured viewers. “We’re just warming up and I can’t wait to show you what we have planned next.”
Sikora ended his message by reiterating that fans need to stay alert, “Because ghosts never die and the ‘power’ never ends.”
