Turkey entered the “track” of acquiring combat aircraft F-16 from the USA.
In particular, Turkey signed the final agreement with the US (also known as the letter of acceptance) for the purchase of 40 F-16 warplanes, 79 upgrade kits for the corresponding fighters and a large volume of aerial weapons.
However, according to the Turkish quick newsthe parties continue consultations on the details.
“Contracts have been signed and work on the details continues through discussions between delegations. The details that will emerge after the discussions will then be made public,” a Turkish Defense Ministry source said during a weekly briefing.
The timing of the F-16 acquisition request
Turkey submitted its application to acquire the aircraft in October 2021. Earlier this year, US President Joe Biden’s administration approved the sale of the aircraft, ending years of negotiations that had been a point of contention in relations between the two NATO allies.
